Frenchish is one of the new breed of DJs working his way through the system and his sets bring a vibrance and energy to the floor, especially when combined with the lyrical flow of MC Elkay, his partner in crime. We caught up with the Bristol based DJ to see what’s going down.
Amorius is a Ukrainian liquid DNB producer who has been pushing the genre to its limits in terms of creativity and musical beauty. We first made contact at the tail end of 2024 when his beautiful EP Ethno Code came out on DNBB Records, and we’ve been communicating via translation ever since. Stevie Hyper D was one of the best MCs the international drum and bass scene has ever known, possibly THE best. His life was tragically cut short in 1998 after years and years of hard graft. He was on the cusp of international stardom and a bright future as an MC at the very top of his game. Ten years ago a discussion between his nephew Darrell Austin and film director and producer Jamie Ross-Hulme gave birth to an idea for a full length feature film about Stevie’s life story. Fast forward to 2024 and Hyper – The Stevie Hyper D Story has seen its first airing in Odeon cinemas across the UK, with a second showing scheduled for the 27th November. We have seen the film and also managed to catch up with Jamie to get some insight into the journey from initial idea to big screen. BIG UP to EVERYONE involved in this epic and NOT TO BE MISSED film that has just become the most important production regarding DNB history so far.
I went to my first drum and bass rave in 2007 when I was sixteen years old. Dancing around in a grotty warehouse in the middle of the Somerset countryside, I felt at home for the first time. After that rave it became the thing I lived for. Fourteen years later I started DJing and producing drum and bass, becoming more heavily involved in the scene. With a new lens through which to see the world due to the evolution of social media and a university degree, I started to notice the lack of female names, and not just behind the decks, and it led me to thinking, why is there such a gender imbalance in the EDM industry?
We look at 6 of the best drum and bass albums of 1995, the year jungle was at it’s creative peak. If you haven’t heard of any of these, or even some of them, now is the perfect opportunity to take a listen to a selection from each of these scene defining and bona fide classics.
