Artist Profile – Marble Elephant (UK)

The last time we spoke to Marble Elephant it was on behalf of a very well known Global DNB publication. We fell in love with their music through that experience and got to know a bit about them both too. Tina and Baptiste are an international unit, hailing from Germany and France respectively and now residing in the UK where they make thought provoking liquid drum and bass.

We thought it was about time for a catch up as they release their debut 4 track EP on Celsius.

Welcome in beautiful people!

Thanks so much for having us here on Inside DNB, very chuffed to do this interview with you 🙂

It’s been a while since we last spoke. Tell us what you’ve been up to?

Yeh, it has been a while, a lot of good things have been coming to us in the recent months. We’ve been invited to do various guest mixes including ‘The Man from Del Monte’ which you can check out now on YouTube. There’s also a collaboration we’ve been working on with a fantastic up and coming vocalist, the details of which we can’t reveal yet. We’re also going to start promoting a liquid DNB night in Exeter next year, which we are super excited about.

Tina has just had her 29th Birthday celebration. What did you do to mark the special occasion?

We went for a big family walk including a picnic on the day before, along this beautiful bit of coastline near us. On the day itself we had friends over for a little party and then went to a DNB night. Was a lot of fun!

We remember that Tina was hoping to feature her vocals on some tracks after our last chat. How has that process panned out?

We can happily say that we have made a tune with Tina’s vocals and are still in the process of creating a few more tracks to go with it to create a 140 EP. Making the vocals was a bit of a dream come true and we’re excited to be recording some more in the future.

Awesome news!!  There’s a lot going in the world right now, particularly with the World Cup having just started. Tell us, do you follow your own national teams, and where does the English team stand amongst all of that given that you reside in the UK?

We’re really loving watching football at the moment, so this tournament is pretty exciting to follow. Tina is half English, so the English team is definitely one of the teams we like to support, especially as they have a good chance this year. France would destroy them though anyway.

And what about all of the activity around climate change. How do you feel about that right now?

We’ve always believed in living in harmony with nature and growing up it was always a focus point. So, we are continuing with what we can do, eating vegan, trying not to be wasteful with resources, supporting ethical clothing brands who are taking steps towards climate positivity, supporting causes when we can. There are always exciting innovations and solutions coming out which will help us a lot in our progress with living more at one with earth.

You’ve released a sample pack since we last spoke. They must take ages to create. How did you find that experience, and would you do it again?

It was very fun to create a sample pack. We really enjoyed the process and don’t think it is that complicated. We will definitely make some more again.

So, you have a stunning new 4 track EP due out today. Give us a break down of the four tracks and tell us how they came about.

We’re very proud to be releasing this EP on Celsius. It’s a label we love and we’re so happy to be part of now. Each tune has a similar vibe yet is very different with its own character. In relation to the story, you’ll find there’s an easter egg. As always, it’s a big pleasure to be working on music and to have the gift and the will to create projects like this one. Those four tunes came very naturally, and it felt like the universe was asking for them.

Tell us a bit about some of the feedback you’ve had on this. I for one was completely bowled over when I heard it, especially the title track. It gives me goosebumps! I think it’s one of the best liquid EP’s I’ve ever heard.

Wow, thank you!! That means the world to us 🙂 Glad you enjoyed it! In terms of feedback, it has been absolutely insane. We were flooded with positive feedback which was incredible, and the legend of Drum and Bass, Aphrodite said ‘Great release’ which was the cherry on the cake!

Fair play! It’s an absolute pleasure to watch these artist journeys unfold and feedback from legends like that is amazing! Your last two tracker was released in March, so has it taken that long to write this latest release? You can definitely hear the attention to detail in the music!

It took a few months to complete towards the beginning of the year but then in terms of working with labels and getting projects released, it can take a bit of time. As usual we put a lot of love into our craft and are definitely enjoying the vibe of this EP a lot.

With winter here and the festive season approaching, what are your plans for the coming weeks and then into the new year?

We will be busy promoting the EP and creating new projects for next year, Tina will also be doing a massive Christmas baking session with all the most delicious German Christmas biscuits! Getting together with the family for a nice Christmas roast and resting up in preparation for this huge 2023 that is coming upon us!

Make sure you send some of those biscuits our way!! And until we meet again, what message would you like to give to your growing fan base?

We appreciate each and every one of you so much, thank you for being on this beautiful journey with us. You’re not ready for what’s going to happen in the next few years! We’ve got some epic plans and can’t wait to share it all with you! We always wanted to make people happy with our music, so without you all this wouldn’t be possible. We hope you enjoy our debut EP as much as we enjoyed making it! Lots of love xxx
