in 1995 The BBC broadcast eight iconic shows featuring 8 of the best MCs and DJs the UK had to offer. If you lived near a pirate radio station, hearing jungle on the airwaves was nothing new, but if you lived outside the scope of that network, you had no chance, unless you had a good friend that would send you tapes!
We take a look at, and a listen to the first round of BBC Radio 1’s now iconic ‘One In The Jungle’ , first aired in the summer of 1995.

Stevie Hyper D was one of the best MCs the international drum and bass scene has ever known, possibly THE best. His life was tragically cut short in 1998 after years and years of hard graft. He was on the cusp of international stardom and a bright future as an MC at the very top of his game. Ten years ago a discussion between his nephew Darrell Austin and film director and producer Jamie Ross-Hulme gave birth to an idea for a full length feature film about Stevie’s life story. Fast forward to 2024 and Hyper – The Stevie Hyper D Story has seen its first airing in Odeon cinemas across the UK, with a second showing scheduled for the 27th November. We have seen the film and also managed to catch up with Jamie to get some insight into the journey from initial idea to big screen. BIG UP to EVERYONE involved in this epic and NOT TO BE MISSED film that has just become the most important production regarding DNB history so far.
We look at 6 of the best drum and bass albums of 1995, the year jungle was at it’s creative peak. If you haven’t heard of any of these, or even some of them, now is the perfect opportunity to take a listen to a selection from each of these scene defining and bona fide classics.

For anyone lucky enough to see Stevie Hyper D at the peak of his creative prowess during the mid to late 90’s, they will know that he wasn’t just a charismatic and highly influential Mic controller, he was a game changer with a skills set that propelled lyrical creativity and vocal delivery into a whole other realm, and to be fair, down a road that has never really been travelled before or since. We caught up with Jamie Ross-Hulme, the producer of a brand new feature film about the iconic MC, that needs your help with funding in order to make it to UK cinemas.
