in 1995 The BBC broadcast eight iconic shows featuring 8 of the best MCs and DJs the UK had to offer. If you lived near a pirate radio station, hearing jungle on the airwaves was nothing new, but if you lived outside the scope of that network, you had no chance, unless you had a good friend that would send you tapes!
We take a look at, and a listen to the first round of BBC Radio 1’s now iconic ‘One In The Jungle’ , first aired in the summer of 1995.

I went to my first drum and bass rave in 2007 when I was sixteen years old. Dancing around in a grotty warehouse in the middle of the Somerset countryside, I felt at home for the first time. After that rave it became the thing I lived for. Fourteen years later I started DJing and producing drum and bass, becoming more heavily involved in the scene. With a new lens through which to see the world due to the evolution of social media and a university degree, I started to notice the lack of female names, and not just behind the decks, and it led me to thinking, why is there such a gender imbalance in the EDM industry?
DJ Wuffnuffs is our newest contributor, but also the provider of our latest Guest Mix in a brand new series we’re calling ‘Global Interpretations’ – the idea being that we touch base with DJs from all over the world to get their own personal, but also geographical interpretations of Global drum and bass culture.
