The History of DNB

If you G**gle 'The history of drum and bass' it takes you to a few crumby Wiki pages that tell you that jungle and drum an bass 'came out of the UK hardcore rave scene in the early to mid 90s'. Yeah? And? That just isn't good enough for us.

What hardcore rave scene? What music? Which tracks? What DJs and producers. Which labels?

We pride ourselves on our dedication to history of the scene, and luckily, were their from late '89 and are able to tell the story, and when we can't we research it. Properly. And if we get it wrong, we will put it right!

Time to deep dive into the musical history of drum and bass as we do our very best to bring you the tracks in year and style order.

We're starting way back in 1950 with the sound of Jamaica (and jungle's main influencer) and 1966 with the start of the breakbeats as we know them now, bringing you the full tracks as they were recorded by the artists, and then taking a listen to the breaks as they have been separated and sampled.

We then move on through '88 to '99. You can use the drop down menus on the homepage or click these links to find out more!
