Vibe City 3 – Dirtbox Recordings LP feature (UK)

It’s hard to believe that it has been a whole year already since the launch of the Vibe City concept LPs. 2023 saw not 1, but 2 huge liquid drum and bass compilations from Dirtbox Recordings, with a heavy focus on the talent of tomorrow alongside some of the labels more permanent fixtures, delving head first into new waters and taking themselves way outside of their comfort zone.

After the massive success of last years compilation Dirtbox now reveal Vibe City Volume 3 for 2024, their biggest original compilation yet with 24 exclusive liquid drum and bass inspired tracks from some amazing artists from all around the world. This one has been over six months in the making and yet again they have gone above and beyond, to bring new talent to the forefront on the label and give liquid drum and bass its just deserts.

label head Lee UHF states “These albums are so tough to put together, But the result is worth the hassle. I feel we have taken this compilation to the next level. Last years 2 instalments set the bar so high that this year I had to top it. Not only is this a huge compilation of amazing artists but we have create a physical board game featuring all the artists that will go on sale soon (With some cheeky freebies for a competition) Quick announcement here too. We are turning Vibe City into an actual label. Myself and Sonication (Who featured on Vol 2) is working with me on this and we will announce this fully very soon.”

In keeping with the series’ artwork trend, this year the focus is on the 80’s board game Guess Who? with the artists transformed into characters from the classic board game. They have even gone as far to create a real life board game featuring all of the producers, and this will go on sale during release week.

Doing a deep dive into the music itself, “Time Lost” produced by the ever talented `Pyxis` alongside the DNB super trio, `Sola` is a beautifully crafted soon to be summer anthem plucked right from the fields of this year’s festivals. `Shayper` also lends the collection 3 tracks from his Iteration project, this in turn coming from the labels’ highly successful Tape Pack series.

There is also music from one of the most talked about junglists on the circuit right now. He has one of the biggest musical outputs on the scene and has released on every major label doing jungle or liquid over the past 4 years or so, from the likes of Hospital, Ram, Jungle Cakes, Sub-Liminal, Lion Dub, Deep In The Jungle, Formation and many more. We are of course talking about the man like Conrad Subs, who brings us 2 amazing slabs of liquid-jungle influenced bangers. Permanent fixtures to the Dirtbox compilations are also on hand with Sigmus, Abidance, Beskar, Skuff, Lee UHF & DJ Komatose dropping us some flava from their repertoire to spice up the release.

According to album contributor Blipin “The Vibe City series explores many different flavours of drum & bass and each year continues to diversify the range of music that makes up each album. It’s got something for everyone!”

Jump-Up stalwart `L3MMY DUBZ` even gives us his stamp on the liquid sound with 2 huge tracks, as well as GTA label residents Locoda & JD Nobody who have both provided some amazing music for your listening pleasure. Finally, a whole host of first timers from around the world are welcomed to the stable in the form of Canis x Sirius, Blipin, David Saturn, Jane Doe and Akuma.

Beskar is another artist that features on the LP and he says “It’s just so exciting to be apart of the on going vibe city series. All the artist involved have become like a little family, even though we’ve never met in person. My track in particular I’m so proud of. I feel it has everything I bring to the table as a singer and multi instrumentalist as well as a DNB producer.”

While JD Nobody says “Vibe City Volume 3 is on repeat. I am so proud to be apart of it, as there is some really good work on there. with the likes of Sola, Pyxis, Locoda and myself JD Nobody to name a few. There is a range of DNB styles featured, from melodic to stinkers.
