5 Minutes With – Cliques (UK)

2 years in to what started of as a lock down project has seen the mighty Cliques rise to a point beyond their wildest dreams. Still a secretive trio (even I don’t know who one of them is, and I’ve been communicating with him for two years!), and still full of dark humour and incredible bursts of creativity, they are back with Vol 5 of Cliques Got Dubs, and it’s a firecracker.

We caught up with this ever-mysterious band of rogues for 5 minutes with……………….

So, you’ve made it to Vol 5! It’s been quite a journey eh?

Yes indeed, we have put out 28 tunes in the last two years and the mad thing is we are only really just getting started in terms of our creative output. Every week we are learning new production techniques and have brought Pioneer 3000s now, so we can test mix every tune against releases by the biggest artists in the scene. Most importantly we stay consistent and keep people on their toes in terms of our musical and social output.

What’s it been like watching the fanbase and appreciation for the music grow over the last few years?

We love it! From the very start we wanted to engage with people, give back and just have a laugh. We take what we do musically very seriously but outside of that we are just rolling with whatever feels right. Other people have asked us if we have a plan with our socials and there really isn’t. We bounce from idea to action quickly and then move on to whatever next is entertaining us. From taking Barry hostage to superimposing peoples heads into weird photos. No one is safe.

Marianna Ray is back on vocal duties for this one. Her voice fits your style perfectly. She’s almost a part of the band! The choice to colab with her again this time was a no-brainer right?

Marianna is a true artist. We have so much respect for her creativity in terms of her song writing, vocal delivery and the videos she makes to support the tunes. Her vocals always have such a deep level of emotion to them and create moments!

The EP’s have been going from strength to strength, but what else has Cliques been up to in between releases?

We are working on releases for bigger labels, our live show and CLIQUES the clothing range. Musically we are continuing to work with live string and horn sections, guitarists and keys to give our music that timeless sound. There is a lot going on and we always keep focused on being consistent and relentless.

Things are easing up out there now. Are you looking to take Cliques on the road this summer?
