Belgian new beat. The immediate precursor to Belgian techno (see 1990/1991) was pretty unique. It relied on a simple drum pattern with next to no variation, a simple 4/4 and snare on every second beat, which was almost rock like. It felt gothy, mucky, industrial and sleazy, but in a wonderful way. With leanings towards American house, acid and techno, yet remaining completely unique, it paved the way for the Belgian techno revolution a few years later, which in turn melted into the UK breakbeat scene to form jungle tekno. Her way pay some kind of homage to this absolutely essential cog in the UK drum and bass wheel.

1.BX-8017 - C C C P House. What a place to start this introduction to Belgian new beat! Simple in structure and with those staccato stabs piercing the soundscape, this is the eerie, industrial, gothic sound of new beat to a tee. Get your marching boots on.
